…Amos (and later Blitz Basic). I could make cool stuff in Amos and Blitz, but I could only make rudimentary Amiga OS applications in C.

Reminiscing about this made me realise that when people are starting out, nobody gives them straightforward answers:

The language books claim to teach their language without previous experience, so they're marketed to beginners

It's hard to find good general programming books suited to beginners

It's hard to find mentors
