…are on Dropbox. All your photos in Photo Stream. Everything else in Evernote.

Cloud computing has eliminated the need to be a sysadmin and host your own server hardware in favor of renting resources in the cloud. Amazon, Microsoft, and Google are the big three and are all jockeying to lay claim to all the CPU and storage on the web.

Glassboard runs on exclusively Microsoft Azure . All user data is encrypted and stored in Azure Table Storage. Images and videos live …

Evernote is its ecosystem of apps. To become "locked in" to a product like Evernote, it has to be ubiquitous with every platform you care about. It's not enough to just have an iPhone app and a web app. You need iOS, Android, Windows, Windows Phone, and the web. 1Password is another product that succeeds at this. They're seemingly everywhere, except the Blackberry.

While I have been using Evernote, I haven't been happy using Evernote. It's an incredibly …

…it's been edited and sent. User who use cloud storage ( Box, Dropbox, Evernote) should tag any work-related items as such so that they're easily identified and accessible.

Calibrate your BYOD policies to users' level of access. Some people are content to use their personal tablet as a "second screen" for reading and may simply want access to the company wifi. Others may want to use theirs for work-related email. I've seen a number who use them as email and …

…crucial data (I know of at least one Fortune 50 company that does this), employees using Evernote and DropBox to share notes and files, an enterprising developer who builds an unsanctioned custom piece of software to simplify or automate an onerous task — all these are examples of shadow IT. As you've probably surmised from the term, IT departments take a dim view of these unsanctioned (and often unknown-to-them) tools and technologies.

You've probably already guessed some of …

…wizard to configure the widget. Picked a bunch of common services (also Google Drive, Evernote), told it what size to crop to, and set it to image-only upload (otherwise, it can be used to upload any file).

Dropped that into the HTML, verified that everything worked correctly, and then turned to the SDK documentation. <input type='hidden' name='image' value='{{image}}' role='uploadcare-uploader' data-crop='1940:776' …

…Amazon Cloud Reader (there's no Kindle app), and Evernote are inaccessible. I'm guessing there are lots more. Other sites like GMail look like they did 5 years ago, as you get the default "we're not really sure which phone you're using" interface.

Because there's no widgets API as far as I can tell, you can't easily shortcut to tasks you might need to do often (e.g. change screen brightness: to do this, you have to dig into the configuration …

Matt Wensing from Stormpulse (disclaimer: I'm an investor, long story below) generously took some time off of managing the nation's severe weather risks to appear on our podcast. ( Keith Perhac couldn't be with us when we taped this, as he was celebrating the birth of his second daughter.) It's been about six months since our last episode but I think this probably makes up for it, as it's a cracker of an episode.
