…Coleman admits Turner's big data transition is still a work in progress, the ultimate goal is to better understand the physics of engagement, and to link consumer engagement patterns with the ad side of the house in real time. "Getting the insight—that's the Holy Grail," he said.

You can learn more about Turner's data story in this Gigaom article and the video below:

…traffic. Fortunately, there are only two steps remaining towards the testing Holy Grail:

The JavaScript is going to make an actual HTTP connection, so we need to have an actual HTTP server running somewhere with our fake.

The JavaScript is talking to " buildserver.com," which we don't control, so we need to get it to use a configurable host.

We can use capybara to solve the first issue. Instead of mounting the application using sham_rack, we run it using Capybara

Keith and I recorded the second podcast, this time with special guest Amy Hoy . (If you missed the first podcast, see here .) We're still searching for a format which really works for us, so this is a work in progress. Please share your thoughts with us on what you like/don't like about it.

This podcast was recorded two months ago , largely because Keith and I got too busy to do the editing and post it. We'll outsource more of that in the future. Of …

…earlier attempts at integration testing Javascript (the search for the Holy Grail). It was always intended as a temporary library. The Cucumber-Capybara-Env.js stack was full of code that was hacks piled on hacks piled on hacks.

Instead of capybara-envjs-fixes, we now use capybara-webkit now on almost all our projects. It's receiving a lot of interest from the community, with lots of good patches coming in. We're actively maintaining it and recommend you give it a try …

Grail Quests

I really wanted to find a way to rip that last bit of domain logic out of Game , and after wrestling a little bit, I came up with something.

It's been a while since I've had to deal with making a cross-browser 100% height layout - long enough that a couple version of IE have come out since. CSS support in IE has come a long way, so I thought I'd start fresh and try a purely standards based approach for the latest IE and standards based browsers, using the 'display: table-*' styles, and just do a fallback for older versions of IE (a 100% height modified Holy Grail layout that relies on the IE quirks box-model).

…and generic algorithm? Often it comes as anticipation for future changes. The Holy Grail of code reuse probably is to make an algorithm that is so generic that it can handle any business request without change. All you have to do is update some data in the database. I'd rather call it code that leaked into configuration . Sometimes it transforms into a belief that marketing/content/admin folks will be able to make changes without even touching developers team. But more often than not, …

I memorized Holy Grail really well

I can recite it right now and have you ROTFLOL

and

Only question I ever thought was hard

Was do I like Kirk or do I like Picard?

That makes it a top ten, but of course there is always something that gets left out of the top 10 , so I'll just put a few more awesome songs right here down the bottom - I won't tell the list police if you don't :).

…salivating over the PS3's power for this and scrambling to figure out how to do it, imagine taking this to the desktop arena ?

Is this not the Holy Grail we want ?

Let's start imagining, dreaming up the possibilities... and if we're smart enough, try to realise them. My mind's already going a hundred miles an hour. What would you build if you had access to the best of both worlds ?!

cucumber-holygrail to allow Cucumber to drive the Holy Grail integration tests.

Unfortunately, this solution wasn't really designed to accomplish what we wanted; Holy Grail lets you run javascript on a single page and routes xhr requests to a controller in a functional test, and therefore it didn't work like we expected: we wanted to drive a virtual browser session from action to action that supported javascript and ui interactions.

Envjs

From there, we discovered …
