Its controllers are fat, tests are non-existant, and the database.yml is checked into source control with the production passwords in plain sight. This quote is taken right out of a Code Review done by Envy Labs:

"The high point of this application is the rails scaffold generated code"

It's that time again to take a moment to think about those who have impacted the Ruby community this year but have not received the recognition they deserve. We have given away eighteen awards in the past three years at Railsconf, and this year we are preparing to give away six more.

But we need your help.

So, if you know someone who has contributed greatly this year please take a moment to show some gratitude by nominating them on RubyHeroes.com . In two weeks …

One of the reasons the Ruby and Rails community is so strong and passionate is because of the awesome regional conferences that happen all around the globe on a yearly basis. Previously on this blog I've gone through the list and highlighted a bunch, but since then Ruby There has popped up.

So instead of listing out all the conferences I'm just going to send you over to RubyThere.com .

If you dig the Ruby and Rails community I highly recommend you attend …

Rails Envy Podcast Becomes.. The Ruby Show - Gregg Pollack and Jason Seifer's entertaining Rails Envy podcast was taken out to the pasture and shot in 2009, but 2010 opened with podcasting legend Dan Benjamin getting on board with Jason and turning it into The Ruby Show. Little did I know I'd replace Dan as Jason's co-host in October! It's true.
