…Rasberry Pi. You can't hack Minecraft by just installing the Minecraft client. Speaking of which, I didn't have the Minecraft client installed either ;) My kids always play it on their Nexus 7s. I found an open source Minecraft server called Bukkit that "provides the means to extend the popular Minecraft multiplayer server." Then I found a plugin called RaspberryJuice that implements a subset of the Minecraft Pi modding API for Bukkit servers. …

I started learning about creating a Minecraft mod today, using this excellent tutorial (thanks @ 0×17h and @ adudney ).

Background: Minecraft is a very popular world-building game. They announced last November that they will release an API, but they have a friendly attitude toward users who have reverse-engineered how to create "mods" (extensions to the game and changes to the behavior of objects in the world). Minecraft Forge is …

Portal 2, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, Civilization 5 for Windows 8 and Minecraft worked just fine; Call of Duty multiplayer kept crashing.

Here's his verdict (again with my emphasis):

For me the Surface Pro is actually a great piece of hardware. For other digital artists out there looking for a portable solution or maybe a Cintiq 12WX alternative I would highly recommend it. I'm not actually sure how this review hardware stuff works. I don't know if MS expects me to give …

One project that I particularly enjoyed was made by a student who really loved Minecraft. He designed some characters from the game (drawing them using a number of points and rectangles) and then added in some user interaction. He made it so that you could control the the position of a creeper by moving your mouse, as it came closer to " Steve" he would start to hiss and blink, upon hitting Steve he would explode into a firey cloud. This was done over the course of maybe four hours …

Programmers sometimes use it casually to describe unexpectedly complex behaviour (" Minecraft is Turing-equivalent.") The presence of a highly technical expression in an essay that doesn't hinge on its specific meaning is evidence that the author has plenty of room to improve his writing.

As noted in Trivialities : "Trivial" is programmer slang for "I understand what to do and I'm ignoring how much time it will take to do it," …

See this tutorial for setting up minecraft , but if you are playing with the Minecraft 1.0 client (at least of today) you'll need to install a dev build which you can find on the ci server . I found that I needed to run the server, stop it and run it again. Now it seems to work fine.

YouTube user JoshuaMutter , who makes a lot of Minecraft machinima, created this video that mashes up the gameplay from Deus Ex: Human Revolution (which I still have to get) and Men Without Hats' 1982 dance-synth-pop classic, Safety Dance . All it needs is the little minstrel from the original music video.
