…directly to a DAW ( Digital Audio Workstation, i.e., Ableton Live, Reason, Pro Tools, Cubase, etc.) would make things much simpler, but this means I need to write a VST plugin in order to get that audio into those programs.

The problem is, VST's are pretty much only developed via a C++ SDK that Steinberg has tight control over, and there is very little documentation on how to roll your own VST plugin without the SDK (there are open source implementations, but …

2. Provide Valuable Content that Gives a Reason for People to Return

Be social - engage users in your social ecosystem

As we mentioned above, the 20% of users that do look below the fold spend their time looking at the footer . It's very advantageous for designers to find ways to engage users with your social networks. …misfires, but the whole reason I'm blogging about it at all is because the solution is easy. You use Reason for your drum sounds instead of the Roland "brain," which is pretty crappy. Just plug a MIDI cable into it and you're good. In Reason, it's really easy to set a velocity minimum on an individual sample in the NN-XT sampler. The purpose of this is velocity windows, and you'll use this if you want to play a different snare sample when you hit the drum …

Reason Provided: You misspelled the applicant's name

Several small things to notice:

First, notice that we passed in a string, "you misspelled the applicant's name", when we performed the kickback! event.

Second, notice we also pass in a nil... I'll explain that in a future blog post - in short, it is an undocumented feature in AASM where we can choose different transitions we might want to perform. Since we aren't using that, we just pass in nil.

Finally, …

By Kurt Kurasaki, aka Peff , author of what is easily the most sophisticated book on Reason (and I've read them all, or close to it). I got to see Peff demo cool Reason hacks at the Producer's Conference last year. Follow him if you use Reason!
