*To accommodate passing parameters along from an HTML email to our Rails app, I've released URLcrypt, an open-source, MIT-licensed Ruby library for ‘elegant' encrypted URLs . Alternatively, you could also use a table the holds tokens, but I find encrypting the account/user …

To obtain checksums for omnibus packages, you may use the metadata API. For Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit, for example: $ curl 'https://www.opscode.com/chef/metadata?p=ubuntu&pv=12.04&m=x86_64&v=11.4.4'

…Macbook Pro has been running Lucid Lynx (an older version of Ubuntu). I've been biding my time and avoiding upgrading since, well, April 2010, I guess.
For most of the time it was because upgrading your only machine that you rely on for 100% of your income, to a potentially unstable, non long-term release version is generally a bad idea; but then, when I went to a new employer, I tried a new install of the new long term release... and slammed headlong into the weirdness that is the …
Last week I blogged some Vagrant tips and pretty much jinxed the run I had in the past months.
Here's how:
I decided to upgrade to Vagrant 1.1, which broke bento: the current bento master is incompatible with Vagrant 1.1. But selecting the right rbenv env and installing the latest available Vagrant gem (inside the rbenv environment) fixed it.
My base box build, but for some reason, the guest addition setup broke and while it worked on Mac OSX, it broke the image completely on Ubuntu. Don't ask me why.

Cascading foreign key constraint could lead to unresolved replication conflict and leave a slave hanging. Bug fixed # 1130888 ( Seppo Jaakola).
If MySQL replication threads were started before running wsrep recovery, this would lead to memory corruption and server crash. Bug fixed # …
…easybib-something-10.04.4_vbox-4.1.8_0.1.box and upload them to an S3 bucket. The first number is the Ubuntu release and the second is the version of the VirtualBox guest additions. Simple. The third version is our internal iteration — typically a base box isn't perfect from the beginning while e.g. the Ubuntu and VirtualBox part are settled, there might be other improvements. With an extra version you avoid conflicts and extra work like vagrant box delete etc. and ensure the latest …
We're currently in the final stages of testing Ubuntu "Precise" ( 12.04 LTS) Brightboxes, we're now looking for volunteers for beta testing.
