single SELECT queries doing PRIMARY KEY lookups ( aka QPS sysbench mode);

same queries executed inside single-statement transactions ( TPS mode, see the original post on why this case is relevant).

Dimitri didn't touch case #2 and focused only on case #1. Which is the perfect case for read-only transactions optimization in MySQL 5.6, because all SELECT queries in the AUTOCOMMIT mode are, by definition, read-only transactions, so the server deals with an empty transaction …

WebKit open-source layout engine for interpreting and layout out the HTML ( aka, " HTML Renderer" in the diagram), an instance of the V8 JavaScript engine, and the glue code to bridge these and a few other components. If you are curious, the Chromium wiki contains a great introduction to the plumbing .

Each of these "render" processes is executed within a sandboxed environment that has limited access to the user's computer - including the network. …

…Capturing behaviour in Ruby DSLs .

I lied again - you can read about Inventing on Principle and vi if you like.

There were two other key takeaways for me. 1 - "deliberate practice" - putting in time getting better at the basics in whatever field you are in. Professional musicians and athletes are awesome at this. Knowledge workers not so much. 2 - the "adjacent possible" - which is what is waiting around the corner to be discovered once you've …

…for them. The fragments I like get processed into one big-ass PDF file, aka a screenplay.

The only part of Scrivener which I can't replicate by hand in Unix and which I care about remotely is Scrivener's corkboard UI mode, which allows you to mimic physically moving index cards around on a board. I don't actually use this, ever, but I can see the usefulness in it. In every other respect, Scrivener feels like good workflow design tied to middling code and a bloated …

…outlawed or that the average person's right to own a hunting rifle or a handgun in order to defend themselves should be taken away. Just that these more-efficient, high-round, long-range weapons ought to be harder to get. Perhaps only by oh, well regulated militias . Aka, trained military personel.

Here's a link to Jason Alexander's rant on the topic, expressed more clearly and at length.

O'Shea Jackson ( aka Ice Cube ) was technologically way ahead of his time.

In fact, I think he might have beaten TBL to it and got into Linked Data before the www was even conceived.

Firstly, take his rapper alias. This is clearly a nod to the Cube Ontology (a way of publishing multi-dimensional data as RDF ).

At first I thought nothing of this: it could just be a convenient coincidence or maybe it was my sleep-deprived, overworked mind making connections that …
