Ryan Lowe, Production Engineer at Square Inc. says:

"This will be the fifth Percona Live event that I have attended, with each one being better than the last. Next month in New York, I'm most looking forward to the scaling, big data, and high availability talks being offered by the likes of Facebook, Tumblr, and (of course) Percona engineers. Percona Live goes above and beyond simply a MySQL conference. I can always count on enjoying presentations on surrounding …

One thing I noticed during the observation was that there were roughly 2,000 new connections to MySQL per second during peak times. This is a high number by any account.

When a new connection to MySQL is made, it can go into the back_log , which effectively serves as a queue for new connections on operating system size to allow MySQL to handle spikes. Although MySQL connections are quite fast compared to many other databases it can become the bottleneck. For a more in depth …

The much-anticipated ability to access MySQL data via a NoSQL solution has been realized. Using HandlerSocket, significant performance gains can be realized for certain workloads. Sound like something you are interested in? Join us for Percona Live London to hear Ryan Lowe, Percona's Director of American Consulting speak on this subject. In Ryan's session he will answer the questions like:

For those that missed it - we added training in Sydney to our website.

We've booked a training venue near the Museum of Contemporary Art (200 George Street). Some minor logistical changes:

The start time will now be 9am to 5pm

We look forward to seeing you there!

I've presented at two different venues about HandlerSocket recently and the number one question that always arises is:

Why hasn't HandlerSocket become more popular than it is?

Considering how fast and awesome HandlerSocket is, it's not seeing as rapid adoption as some might expect. I theorize that there are five reasons for this:

Bugs, Bugs, Bugs

Up until the beginning of the year, HandlerSocket had a couple of bugs that a lot of people considered deal-breakers, …

HandlerSocket has really generated a lot of interest because of the dual promises of ease-of-use and blazing-fast performance. The performance comes from eliminating CPU consumption. Akira Higuchi's HandlerSocket presentation from a couple of months back had some really good profile results for libmysql versus libhsclient (starting at slide 15). Somebody in the audience at Percona Live asked about the profile results when using prepared statements and I'm just …

UPDATE 2011-03-15 12:50 Pacific - This post may already be out of date, am testing with a fresh snapshot of the source and will update accordingly. (Thanks, Andy)

Several weeks ago at Percona Live 2011 , I presented on HandlerSocket. Due to time constraints, I had to omit some more in-depth discussions in favor of being able to present a broad overview. One of those discussions was about how, exactly, HandlerSocket does not play nicely with auto increment columns . …

On March 29th, I'll be giving a webinar whose title is " Understanding HandlerSocket - A NoSQL PlugIn For MySQL". This is a continuation and extension of the talk I gave during the Percona Live Event in San Francisco back in February . We'll ask, and answer, the following questions:

What is HandlerSocket?

Where does HandlerSocket fit in my application stack?

Why would I want to use HandlerSocket?

How do I use Handlersocket?
